Welcome to the World of Northland Radio!
Running a radio station—and getting to pick the music—has been a dream of mine for a long time. I’ve always wanted a station that provides both entertainment and useful information to the communities it serves. Now, thanks to recent advances in technology and artificial intelligence (AI), former professional DJs, hobbyists, and enthusiasts can run their own radio stations—often right from home. In addition to intelligent automation that streams programming to our platform, Live365, AI now makes it possible to create DJ personalities that can deliver humor, snark, and even emotion in near real time, live on the air. This kind of technology would have seemed impossible just a few short years ago, but today it’s in full swing at Northland Radio.
That said, humans still control all of the behind-the-scenes technology—and the AI DJs—and we plan to keep it that way. I personally curate the music played on the station, selecting current rotations and periodically switching out tracks and shows to keep things fresh. Automation may play and introduce the songs, but every track you hear is chosen by a human (me), not by AI. Humans run the station, not machines, and it'll always be that way.
Northland Radio is exactly that kind of place: My creation, my hobby, and with the help and contributions of my family and our many wonderful syndicated hosts ~ my ongoing experiment. Over time, you’ll get to know our AI DJs through their on-air personalities and the behind-the-scenes stories shared on our website. We choose to embrace this new technology and master it for our purposes ~ playing great musical entertainment and information.
At the same time, Northland Radio is also a fully commercial internet station owned by Great North Broadcasting, LLC and licensed in Alaska, USA. My goal is to be indistinguishable from any terrestrial AM or FM commercial station, and I try to operate with that same level of professionalism. I believe internet stations like Northland represent the future of broadcasting, working right alongside our terrestrial station friends and neighbors.
Internet stations' potential audience is enormous—but only if we focus on delivering high-quality airtime ~ at all times. I sincerely hope you’ll join with us and make Northland Radio your permanent home for great classic, progressive, and metal rock—with a little local flavor mixed in!
Thank you for stopping by.
